Point of Origin: Unknown ( First encountered in the humid sewers of Havana, Cuba )
Height / Length: Variable ( Tentacle length extends for miles )
Weight: 121,000 tons ( Best Estimate )
Physical Description: Armillaria is a conglomerate of thousands of parasitic mutant funguses, all of which are working together symbiotically to survive. The main mass is a free moving, semi-intelligent ‘blob’ of fungal regions attached to a number of tentacles and horns of mushrooms. The tentacles that connect to Armillaria’s body extend for miles and leach out into tiny capillaries wherever they find a food source, devouring any organic material they can attach to. The main mass of this ‘creature’ is an ocean blue or off white / bone color, although it does sport the occasional colorful spot as is often seen in funguses.
Armillaria
Behavior: Armillaria is a parasitic organism that feeds off of any decaying organic material that it comes into contact with. Non-aggressive by nature, that doesn’t mean that the fungus isn’t equipped with the means to violently and savagely defend itself. Armillaria doesn’t fair well in dry area’s or in extreme sunlight, and thus prefers dark, humid area’s, especially subterranean regions like sewers and caves. It is also susceptible to extreme cold and will generally shy away from area’s with brutal winters in favor of warm or hot, humid, climates.
Attacks and Abilities:
- Sporulation: Armillaria can turn into spores and travel via the wind currents to a new location.
- Hide Degradation: Armillaria can cover its opponent in a thick cloud of mold spores that begins a devastating erosion of the opponents skin or other exposed area’s.
Rumors around the crew of the crashed vessel ( of which a name has never been recovered ) circulate to this day, but the most common is that they were quarantined in a hospital in down town Havana while Cuban authorities worked to find the origin of their strange affliction ( which, reportedly, was fungal ). Within a week of being quarantined, it is said that a number of the rapidly deforming members of the crew went insane and caused great damage to the hospital, killing several of the workers and patients alike. All but one of the crew members were subdued or killed in this uprising, and supposedly the questioned escaped into the sewers of Havana never to be seen again.
In 2009, five years after this alleged escape, an official report by the Communist Party of Cuba noted that miles and miles of crops around Havana were being devastated by some sort of fungus in the soil, most of which were sugar cane. The Soil Conservation Department was able to trace the greatest concentration of this fungus through a battery of soil tests in and around Havana, and using seismic surveying charges found the massive form of Armillaria under the city of Havana.
Currently, the government of Cuba is planning an assault to destroy the strange organism below Havana’s streets, but a media blackout has been ordered to prevent the common populace from panicking…
